Lael Chmelyk is a Calgary based maker who is passionate about creating functional objects. She began her career in British Columbia and is a recent graduate of the Alberta University of the Arts. Working in both clay and quilting, her work considers identity and personal history through craft process. Her recent work investigates being a woman in the modern world, and how ideas of femininity diverge from ideas of mothering as womanhood. Her functional pottery combines quiet and ornate surfaces on intimate forms that entrance the user and ask them to take a moment to pause in a busy world.
