Rod Zillman, since childhood, has always loved to draw. That love of drawing led him to a career in Architecture, and lately to the pursuit of Urban Sketching. Rod’s passion however has travelled beyond the technical and into the quest capture the human form using graphite and watercolours and sometimes acrylics. “i am always balancing the dichotomy of precision and whimsey, of the technical and the expressive.” For graphite works, he starts every piece of work with a carefully drawn light pencil outline, and then slowly builds up the intensity of the line work and the shading until it has a finished look. For watercolours, he stars with the same light pencil composition but uses washes of colour and then finer brushwork to complete the work. The artist, like his art is a work in progress.
