"It is the colours and fragrance that make me feel alive and I thank my Creator for this beautiful gift."
“I work primarily with acrylics, alcohol ink and mixed media. I love to make large spontaneous marks when I begin most paintings. These loose marks suggest routes that I can take with the work. Since I am a tactile learner it is important for me to add layers of texture to my work, allowing me to feel my way through the piece. This assists me in achieving a sense of depth. I love variety; it is a must in my art practice!
From mountain to prairie landscapes, forests, flowers, food, friends, bits and pieces of nature and wherever the paint and brush lead her, Karin creates unique and beautiful works of art.
I layer paint, use collage, make marks, and use tools to scratch and sand my work to reveal unexpected surprises throughout the layers.
Art has been at the core of everything Carla does—from visual arts, to music, to design—there were a multitude of hours in her childhood spent drawing, taking art classes and attending music lessons. Her formal education and career in graphic design has greatly informed her approach to both colour and composition in her paintings today.
My reasons for painting are purely for self expression and the hope that my work connects with you in some way.
